Advertizing funded Airport Solution propsed to TSA
Columbus, Ohio, - CompEx Inc., a leading innovator of integrated hosted Internet applications, had the pleasure to present its InterLinx airport security system to key members of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today. Dr. Randy Null, TSA's Assistant Administrator and Chief Technology Officer and his staff viewed how InterLinx would enhance airports current technology systems with an improved means of tracking passengers, employees, baggage, and cargo. While the CompEx, Inc. proposed solution is an all encompassing one. TSA has set out to invent a solution which will utilize the best of bread in the various technologies they are evaluating. Dr. Randy Null felt that the CompEx solution is too ambitious considering the current economic climate, however it is a solution that once deployed could be funded with advertising dollars by vendors using the plasma displays that would be strewn through out the airports. Because of the nature of how TSA has chosen to move forward with their security objectives, TSA has offered to direct CompEx in pursuing a segmented objective with in the guidelines they have set forth. This objective would still focus on making airports safer by providing a means for CompEx to participate in a segmented aspect of the overall proposed solution, which may include a study for tracking employees using biometric face scanning and RFID badges with the use of the InterLinx engine.
The InterLinx system solution integrates biometric identification technology, radio frequency identification devices (RFID), and current CTX x-ray scanning capabilities to improve the efficiency and the quality of current technology. By embedding an RFID tag into a personal identification card, the secure-pass, a passenger can be positively identified through a face recognition program. The passenger's baggage, both checked and carry-on, are also labeled with RFID tags that are linked to this unique passenger secure-pass card, positively matching the traveler with his/her luggage. Additionally, the InterLinx system enables the CTX-scanned images of baggage contents to be easily accessible to airport security officials through fixed or handheld devices. RFID tags could also be used on employee badges and airport cargo for similar identification and tracking advantages. The RFID tags used by the InterLinx system are manufactured by the Single Chip System (SCS) Corporation of San Diego, CA, the nation?s leading provider of passive RFID tags and scanners to airports and airlines.
Any person or item labeled with an RFID tag can then be tracked throughout the airport, allowing security officials to know their exact location at any time.
The InterLinx system would verify that the carry-on items and the checked luggage associated with a passenger at the time of check-in would accompany that passenger onto the aircraft. The face recognition program validates the identity of a passenger or employee, upon the entry or exit from any security checkpoint, gate or doorway at the airport. Plasma screens, which act as scanning devices and advertising displays, would be located throughout the airport and allow security officials additional means of checking RFID tag locations. Secure-pass passengers could view the customized location of connecting gate information, while advertisers could track audience participation of their advertisements. This marketing advantage could help offset the cost of the system and provide unprecedented information to the companies using it to market their products and services.
The presentation to Dr. Null and his staff comes as a logical step in the search for more accurate luggage tracking solutions following the tragic events of September 11th. The InterLinx system offers many safety advantages, including enhanced biometric identification and consistent RFID tag tracking, that efficiently monitor the security heart beat at each node in the system. InterLinx can alert authorities if there is a breach of security or a system failure at any step in the process.
Aram Kovach, CompEx President and Chief Technology Officer, explains the importance of the InterLinx system. The InterLinx system is an integrated security solution whose time has come. As a significant technological enhancement to current security systems, InterLinx also brings increased efficiency to the airport screening process.
